Aftercare

What happens after you return home

Aftercare is where treatment abroad most often breaks down. It is worth understanding how it works before you travel, not after.

If you are in pain, swollen or unwell right now

See a dentist or doctor where you are. Do not wait for a reply from us or from a clinic in another country. Urgent dental problems need someone who can examine you today. Once you are safe, we can help you get the situation back to the treating clinic.

Who is responsible for what

Clinical aftercare — instructions, reviews, and putting right anything clinical — is the responsibility of the clinic that treated you. They hold your records, they know what was done, and they carry the clinical duty of care.

Our role is to keep the line open: making sure your questions reach the right clinician, that you get an answer, and that somebody escalates if you do not. We cannot give you clinical advice, and we will not pretend to.

Before you fly home

  • Written aftercare instructions specific to what was done
  • A copy of your treatment record, including materials and implant details
  • Copies of your X-rays and images
  • Details of any medication prescribed and how long to take it
  • The clinic's contact route for problems, including out of hours
  • A clear statement of what is covered if something needs attention
  • The date and purpose of any review appointment

If something goes wrong

Raising a problem from another country.

Distance makes problems feel worse than they are. A clear sequence helps.
  1. Get seen if it is urgent

Pain, swelling, bleeding or fever mean seeing someone locally first. Everything else can follow.

  2. Document it

Photographs, dates, and what you are experiencing. This is what lets a clinician assess remotely.

  3. Tell us and the clinic together

So nothing gets lost between two inboxes and we can see whether an answer is actually arriving.

  4. Escalate if it stalls

If the clinic is not responding adequately, we escalate through their documented complaints process.

Finding a dentist at home

It is sensible to have a dentist in your own country who knows what treatment you have had. Give them your treatment record and images. This matters most with implants: a dentist who knows which system was used can service it, and one who does not may be unable to help.

This page is general information about how aftercare is coordinated. It is not clinical advice and does not describe the care any individual should receive. Follow the instructions given by the clinic that treated you, and seek local care for anything urgent.

Start with a preliminary plan. Decide when you are ready.

A preliminary plan costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It simply gives you a clearer picture of the options and the questions worth asking next.
